About BEXX

In the mid-1980's, two mainframe computer experts (one from Toronto and one from New York City) decided to apply their then three decades of experience to the emerging use of personal computers in the graphics industries. Computer of choice: Apple. Location choice: Calgary, Alberta, Canada (near Banff and the Canadian Rockies).

Paul M. Beck and Mary F. McGuire founded BEXX Systems Inc. in 1988. Since then, BEXX has provided technical services (including systems integration, hardware repair and custom programming) to clients ranging from one person design shops to major printing companies in North America. BEXX is now moving into the development of commercial systems support software.

BEXX is proud of leading our clients in the implementation and use of the latest cost-effective technology for their businesses. For example, BEXX was the first company to bring the ScanView 5000 dpi desktop drum scanner into Canada directly from Denmark and the first in Canada authorized to service these high end RGB color scanners - at a time when the only commercial alternatives were large, expensive CMYK color scanners.

BEXX's success comes from our never-ending quest for new "toys" and techniques that make computers, programming, internet and graphic production fun and profitable for our clients and ourselves. BEXX continues to do a limited amount of design and production work (graphics and internet) so that our techniques continue to be up-to-date. Some of our achievements include:

• Technical guru for the internationally-known Banff Publishing Workshops
• Site preparation for first DI printer in western Canada
• Systems support, image scanning, and cover design for award-winning magazines
• Design, scanning and production of the ACTRA Performers Guide
• On-line Media Buyer Assistant software for global ad booking by target market and budget

BEXX is an active member of the Printing and Graphics Industries Association and participates in advisory groups on the printing curricula and the software engineering program at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. Since 1995, Mary McGuire been active with Calgary Technologies Inc. as a Director and member of the Strategic Advisory Group promoting local economic development in the technology sector.
